High-Sesitive C-Reactive Protei (hs-CRP)-The high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP) test is a blood test that measures the level of C-reactive protein (CRP) in the bloodstream, but with greater sensitivity than standard CRP tests. CRP is a protein produced by the liver in response to inflammation, and its levels rise in the presence of inflammation in the body.
The hsCRP test is more sensitive in detecting lower levels of CRP, making it useful for assessing low-grade chronic inflammation. Elevated levels of hsCRP are associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular diseases, such as coronary artery disease and stroke. It is considered a marker of inflammation within blood vessels.
